HISTORY FESTIVAL EVENTS IN RENMARK & PARINGA
Hotel Renmark was the first ‘community owned hotel’ in the British Empire. In 1897 a group of early settlers got together, combined their resources, and established the hotel. Visitors are free to browse the museum on the first floor, and view the five rooms showcasing early settler achievements. Honour boards of past Managers and Chairmen downstairs on display. All welcome.
Come and join Olivewood Historic Homestead and Museum as they acknowledge the Volunteers who where instrumental in establishing the first South Australian Branch of the National Trust in Renmark in 1956. It is the dedication of these Volunteers over the last 68 years that has made Olivewood what it is today! A Members Memorial Wall will be launched to honour Olivewood's past members with the launch commencing at 10am.
Join the Renmark Paringa Community Museum as they present their Open Day - 'Powering Up Paringa' as part of the 2024 SA History Festival!
The volunteer run Museum will celebrate 'Power' through -
- the Paddle Steamer (PS) Industry powering under the historic Paringa Bridge (9.30am) as it makes its way downstream to Berri
- the powering up of their huge range of stationary engines by their volunteers
- a display by the Riverland Vintage and Classic Car Club
- the opening of the PS Industry Display and
- the opening of the new Black Stump display
Catering will be provided by the Renmark Lions Club with entry by donation. This is a great chance to explore the Community Museum and all see all the changes and updates that have occurred in recent times.
Do you remember jumping into Renmark’s channels as a child? Renmark Irrigation Trust was the first irrigation trust to convert its channel network to a closed pipe system. Although there were no more channels for swimming, there was a remarkable 33% drop in water use which far exceeded expectations. Come and hear a panel recall how the scheme changed their lives.
Bookings required to the library and light refreshments provided.
