The Lock 5 Loop Trail is a walking, cycling and running trail that takes in river scenery, the historic Paringa Bridge, Bert Dix Memorial Park and the Lock 5 area before returning along the same route.
Description
The Lock 5 Loop Trail starts along the flood bank (adjacent to the Sturt Highway near Patey Drive) and follows a sealed path (previously the railway line connecting Paringa and Renmark) towards the historic Paringa Bridge.
Trail users cross through the centre of the bridge, originally designed to carry a single railway line, that has since had a road lane added on each side. The trail then circles under the bridge, passing the Renmark Paringa Community Museum to reach the Murray River and the scenic Bert Dix Memorial Park. The trail continues along the roads edge (markers in place) to reach Lock 5 which also marks the turnaround point of your journey with a full loop covering 6.7km on mostly flat terrain.
The trail is designed as a loop and can be started from either end. It is ideal for walking, cycling or running, although discretion should be used regarding trail conditions following rain, during river high river events and when crossing / following roads. There are several public toilets and benches along the way for your convenience.
